My Top 3 Tips For Getting Over Your Cold Faster
I’ve been dealing with a cold since Friday. It’s that time of year where the weather is 20 degrees one day and 60 the next. My body could never handle crazy weather changes, and it always shows up in my body as a cold. There’s not much I can do about it, but I do have a few tricks I use to make it less intense and help me get better in less time!
Salt Water Gargle
This is something my grandmother would swear by. At the first sign of a sore throat, gargle with warm water and salt. I have used this remedy since I was little and it has always helped. It reduces inflammation and kills bacteria. You can gargle every few hours. I usually gargle before bed and when I wake up in the morning.
Steam Inhalation with Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral, making it great for helping you get over your cold. I boil water in a small saucepan, add a few drop of tea tree oil, put a towel over my head and inhale the steam for 10-15 minutes. The bonus is you also get a facial in the process! The steam helps break up congestion and clear your stuffy nose. The tea tree oil helps kill bacteria. It’s an all around win-win!
A nice cup of warm, herbal tea is a great way to soothe your cold. I usually go for ginger, green tea or lemon. Herbal teas will help break up congestion, warm your body and soothe your throat. Adding honey will coat the throat and soothe even the most painful sore throats. Make sure to talk to your physical before consuming herbal teas, especially if you have any medical conditions, as some will cause side effects. For example, ginger has a little spiciness to it and can cause heartburn in certain individuals.
Bonus tip: Something quite obvious, but even I have trouble with this one - Stay hydrated!!! Drink plenty of fluids!!
